I’d like to welcome Alexa Grace author of the of Deadly trilogy. I’m pleased you could make it today to share your stories.

Nina: Tell us a little bit about yourself.
Alexa: My journey started in March 2011 when the Sr. Director of Training & Development position I’d held for thirteen years was eliminated. A door closed but another one opened. I finally had the time to pursue my dream of writing books–a childhood dream. My focus is now on writing riveting romantic suspense novels.

I earned two degrees from Indiana State University and currently live in Florida. I’m a member of Romance Writers of America National as well as the Florida Chapter.

The first two books in my Deadly series have consistently been listed on Amazon’s Top 100 Bestselling Romantic Suspense Books. My newest book, Deadly Relations is now in the top 10 of Amazon’s Top 100 Bestselling Romantic Suspense Books.

I was recently named one of the top 100 Indie authors by Kindle Review. A chapter is devoted to me in the book Interviews with Indie Authors by C. Ridgway and T. Ridgway.

My writing support team includes five Miniature Schnauzers, three of which are rescues. As a writer, I am fueled by Starbucks lattes, chocolate and emails from readers. You can keep up with me on my website, facebook and twitter. You’re also welcome to check out and join my street team.

Nina: Please tell us about your newest book.
Alexa: Deadly Relations, the third book of the Deadly Trilogy, was published on September 21. Here is a brief description of the plot.

In Deadly Relations, a serial killer of young women hides in plain sight in a quiet county in the Midwest. Concealed behind a friendly and trustworthy face, no one knows he has a rage to kill he can’t control — until it’s too late.

Detective Jennifer Brennan, still haunted by her abduction five years before, devotes her life to serve and protect others. So when three young women go missing and are found murdered on her watch, she vows to find the killer — or die trying.

A personal relationship with her partner, Detective Blake Stone, would be career suicide. But the connection Jennifer has with him is nothing short of electric. Working with Blake daily and denying her attraction is hard. But when he moves in to protect her, resisting him becomes pure torture.

As they fight temptation, two detectives race against time to find the killer before he strikes again. It is the most important case of their careers. It could be their last.

My next book Profile of Evil will be published in the spring of 2013. It is the first book of the Profile Trilogy. Here is a brief description of the plot.

Carly Stone is a brilliant FBI agent who’s seen more than her share of evil. Leaving the agency, she becomes a consultant for Indiana County Sheriff Brody Chase. He needs her help to catch a savage killer who is luring teenaged girls to their death in the handsome sheriff’s community.
The two are determined to stop a dangerous predator before he takes another life — at any cost.

Nina: How can we find out more about your books?
Alexa: Deadly Offerings, Deadly Deception and Deadly Relations are sold on Amazon, Barnes & Noble, iBooks, Smashwords, Kobo, Sony, Diesel and more. Deadly Offerings is FREE on Amazon.

Please enjoy this EXCERPT from Deadly Relations:
Jennifer left the Sugar Creek Cafe, where she’d filled her thermos with hot coffee. She walked down Main Street toward the county sheriff’s building, where Catherine Thomas’s latest search efforts were being organized. March had been fickle thus far, alternating between unseasonably warm or frigid weather. Today, it was chilly, so she tightened the belt on her coat and lifted her collar as she walked against the wind that whipped her hair about, stinging her face and eyes. Though she’d never admit it, she was exhausted and had averaged around four hours of sleep per night since Catherine went missing. When she wasn’t in her car searching for Catherine, she was sitting in front of her computer using the methods Frankie had taught her to look for a missing person. Her cousin, Frankie, was a private investigator with an expertise in technology, and Jennifer had worked for Frankie prior to going to the Police Academy. But Frankie’s sure-fire methods hadn’t worked to find Catherine.

One look at the gray clouds overhead confirmed what the TV weather guy had said. There was a chance of rain today. At least, she hoped it was just rain. If the temperature dipped below thirty-two degrees, there was a good chance they’d get freezing rain, or what people called “black ice.” That made the roads treacherous to drive, let alone search for a missing person.

The majority of the businesses in the historic downtown area were located on Main Street for six blocks or more. Most of the buildings had been built a hundred or so years before. They’d been preserved by massive renovations and modernization as time went on.

The wind was playing havoc with Catherine Thomas’s missing posters, which peppered the trees and light posts. Lining the inside of nearly every shop or restaurant window was the poster for the world to see, with the silent prayer that someone would find her. Fred and Julie Thomas worked tirelessly to get the word out about Catherine’s disappearance.

Jennifer gritted her teeth as she thought about Catherine. She’d been abducted. Though there was no evidence, she was sure of it. Catherine had been taken against her will, just as Jennifer had been taken years before. The girl was looking forward to going to the police academy. She was not a runaway. There was no way Jennifer would believe Catherine left on her own volition. She had an ominous feeling that time had run out, and their chances of finding Catherine alive were nil. Catherine’s parents hadn’t lost hope of finding her alive, but Jennifer had. She knew the more time that elapsed, the less likely they would find Catherine alive. Like most detectives, Jennifer knew that time and again when they didn’t find the missing person within forty-eight hours, it was likely the person was dead.

It was Thursday and Catherine had been missing for five days — a time period painfully realized by every member of the county sheriff department. The staff took it personally. The sheriff, each of his officers, and all the admins wore a yellow arm band that matched the yellow ribbon tied around a huge oak tree in the Thomas’s front yard. People don’t go missing on their turf, on their watch.

So much time had elapsed that most of the sheriff’s team had lost hope that Catherine was alive, just as Jennifer had. The sense of loss made them more determined to find her body so they could focus on what happened to her. While there was a lot of information they’d gain by finding a dead body in terms of prosecuting a killer, there was a lot more satisfaction in finding the missing alive.

Fear ran rampant, as was evident by increased calls to the station. Paranoid citizens were reporting suspicious strangers, or strange noises outside their homes. High school girls, much to their distress, found themselves with early curfews and increased parental surveillance. Local restaurants were filled with anxious chatter about Catherine, and gossip ran rampant. People were angry, too, firing blame at the county sheriff’s office for not finding Catherine.

For the first time since Jennifer could remember, people were locking their doors at nights and leaving on their outside lights. The quiet street she lived on was usually dim at nightfall, with only a few street lamps to light the way. Since Catherine went missing, the street was flooded bright by house, porch, and garage lights.

Reader question:  In Deadly Relations, three young women are abducted by a serial killer.  What is the most frightening thing that’s ever happened to you?

I’d like to welcome JD Favor to my blog. JD is the author of the The Edge of Texas romantic suspense series…

I’m so excited to be here today, Nina. Thank you so much for inviting me. I’m celebrating the release of BAD VIBES, the third novel in my romantic thriller series: THE EDGE OF TEXAS.

The setting for this series is about 25 miles north of the Mexican border on the lower Texas coast. South Padre Island is a beautiful semi-tropical resort separated from the mainland and the small coastal village of Port Isabel by the two-and-a-half mile Queen Isabella Causeway spanning the Intracoastal Waterway.
BAD MEDICINE was the first of THE EDGE OF TEXAS romantic thrillers and it’s FREE today. I hope everyone has a chance to download it.

BAD MEDICINE is followed by BAD KARMA, and BAD VIBES picks right up where BAD KARMA leaves off. BAD VIBES is the story of Deputy Darla Calhoun. She’s both depressed and angry over her husband’s suicide some six months previously, but she has to carry on for the sake of her twin 4-year-old sons. She is a member of the tight-knit law-enforcement team under the leadership of Sheriff Rafael Solis (the hero of BAD MEDICINE).

Darla arrests a vagrant, hanging around the marina, but after he’s cleaned up, she discovers a hunky, hard-body with a smoldering gaze hidden beneath the filthy rags. He turns out to be a federal agent working undercover. He’s after a gang of human traffickers using the Intracoastal Waterway to bring sex slaves into the United States from Mexico. Rafael assigns Darla as liaison officer to work with the feds, bringing her face-to-face with the “Iceman”, Mike Burke, the undercover agent she arrested. Darla, Mike and his partner tear up and down the Intracoastal Waterway in pursuit of the human traffickers, but when two local women disappear, the search becomes personal.

After a failed mission Darla and Mike are left alone on the boat, which leads them to an unplanned night of passion. The following excerpt takes place the next morning.

EXCERPT:
The sound of weaponry being discharged caused Darla to awaken with a jolt. She was lying naked in Mike’s arms.

It was the starter’s pistol for the regatta that had awakened her. She knew what it was immediately and sank back down into the warm embrace of the man who had made love to her in the wee small hours of the morning.

She gazed into his eyes. It was like staring into a reflection pool, deep and fathomless. She couldn’t read him at all, but he smiled and pulled her closer. She had been starved for tenderness and as unlikely a source as Mike Burke had seemed, he was proving to be a wellspring of affection. He stroked her hair with one of his large, yet surprisingly gentle, hands. She rested her cheek against his chest and closed her eyes.

She judged that she had only been able to grab a couple of hours of sleep, and considering the probability that this day would unfold to be as demanding as the last, she should run to her bunk and burrow her head under the covers. But Mike was stroking her bare skin with his fingertips.

His touch stirred her passion, a passion that had raged out of control earlier and, once awakened, lurked just under the surface, ready to rage again. The raging thing was new for Darla.

He kissed her forehead next to her eyebrow. A sweet gesture in any other setting, but considering that the full extent of her nude form was pressed against his, it was definitely a sexual act. She soaked it up like a sponge, lifting her lips to his.

Resistance is futile.

Mike’s kiss deepened. He seemed to have some kind of radar when it came to reading her. He knew how to make her senses sit up and beg, and he knew how to deliver.

His gaze alone could arouse a deep longing within her. A need for something she didn’t have or perhaps never had…that sense of belongingness that comes when two halves come together to make a whole. It seemed that when Mike was touching her and kissing her; when his body was speaking to hers, she felt that oneness she had read about in romance novels, but never truly experienced. And he seemed to take his job so seriously, the job of pleasuring her.

She wanted to tell him how much he thrilled her, but the words couldn’t seem to come. She felt tongue-tied, unwilling to admit that she had been starving and that he was giving sustenance not only to her body but to her soul. His ardent attentions restored her sense of self as a woman.

He kissed her, and then kissed her some more, as if he couldn’t get enough of her. His lips and tongue caressed every part of her body. She thought if she were to be swabbed for DNA, Mike Burke would be found guilty. But he wasn’t acting guilty. He was performing the act of making love the same way he did everything else; competently, thoroughly and in great detail.

His hands were on her thighs, gently caressing them with his fingertips. Her heart pulsed in her ears. She wanted him to touch her and to kiss her…and yes, she wanted him to make love to her with such single-minded intensity.

He grazed the inside of her thigh lightly with his tongue. She tried to play it cool, knowing where this was leading, but she couldn’t contain her grin. He pressed his tongue into her wetness, found his objective and proceeded to torment his target until she was gasping for relief. When waves of desire roiled low in her belly, he kneaded her with his finger and then when she couldn’t stand it anymore she pulled him toward her and embraced him by wrapping her legs around his hips. Not very subtle.

“Are you ready for me?” he whispered.

She wanted to scream, ‘Oh, hell yes!’ but managed to nod her head, not trusting herself to speak. When he guided himself into her, she felt all the sensual impact of their joining. The image of oneness returned, but she brushed it determinedly away. This can’t last. This is going to break my heart again.

But Mike couldn’t hear the lecture she was giving herself, so he was taking care of business in his own unique way. With each thrust he was bringing her to a higher and higher crest. Her body was filled to capacity by the man she was trying unsuccessfully to resist. He was hitting all the right parts. She lifted her hips to meet his thrusts and then when the first wave of orgasm hit her she latched on and rode it with him through the last swell.

He relaxed against her, but held her close, one hand under her hip. At least he was breathing hard. “Darla… Honey, I…”

Her breathing and heart rate were out of control, but she loved being held. She loved that he didn’t give her a peck and roll over. She loved…Mike…Oh, my God! I love him.

He found her lips again. It was a good kiss. It wasn’t a “Thanks for the sex” kiss or an “I’m done with you now” kiss. It was an “I’m just getting started” kiss.

Welcome to my tour stop with Nina Pierce. Woman, thank you so much for having me this week! Readers, I hope you enjoy meeting my two characters, Colt and Alexis, from Master’s Email and thank you for stopping in to read!

Come get into the tub, we have lots of room and lots of bubbles! Champagne is flowing, too, so grab your glasses. We have a sexy bartender who will keep your glass full til Saturday night! At the bottom, be sure to get in on the contests – drawing is SUNDAY, AUGUST 26! If you’ve already entered the Grand Prize contest, there’s no need to do that again. I have your entry already.

My hot couple for you to meet is Alexis and Colt from MASTER’S EMAIL who enjoy their Dom/sub relationship. Colt owns his own security company, specializing in video surveillance. Hmmm…kind of helps him with his hobby! Alexis is his live-in who loves performing for him and has slowly learned her way into the submissive world.

Welcome to the tour you two and thanks for answering a few questions for our readers.

Tonya: Colt, how is Alexis doing as your submissive? Was it hard to get her to join your lifestyle?

Colt: Alexis is a hottie in her own right and the more time we spent together, her sensual side came out. That’s when I discovered she liked being pinned down to the bed when we made love. Sparks happened, one thing led to another and….my ties came out! * he squeezes Alexis’ knee * She’s the one who brought them into the bed!

Alexis: * blushing * Colt! How can I not want to be tied down when I have such a handsome Master. He just brings out my bad-girl side. I’m really prim and proper, honest!

Tonya: Us prim and propers have to stick together! I understand you now write for an online BDSM magazine, doing articles and a reader column. That must be easy when you also live the lifestyle.

Alexis: It does help and I love writing for them. Colt keeps me full of ideas to write about so I have lots of material for my readers and now have quite a following for the magazine.

Tonya: Colt, does Alexis misbehave on purpose so she has to be punished?

Colt: * laughing * Yes she does! She knows part of the punishment is being videotaped so even though she says she doesn’t like the camera on…she’s not being honest. Her performances are top notch! Personally, I love re-watching the tapes…she just gets me so heated up and I get to see her body over and over in the positions I love…with her tied and immobile! But she loves it, don’t you, pet?

Alexis: You are so bad! I do have to admit that being restrained and forced to do what he says, within my limits, is exciting. When he blindfolds me, my other senses become stronger. Not knowing where he might touch me and how….mmmm. One has to experience that in order to understand. I hope your readers will allow their partner to blindfold them. It’s an easy way to get started. Now if your hands are also bound and you’re blindfolded….look out because you’re in for the night of your life, ladies! (Click HERE to read a VERY naughty excerpt)

Tonya: I’ve tried to tell my readers that. We have to ask for what we want and that means you guys out there, too. Slowly ease your partner into the blindfold or hold their hands over their head while you make love to them. Tell them they aren’t allowed to open their eyes until you say so. Colt, you have an addiction to watching Alexis by camera. Do you also enjoy watching her perform with another Dom? Doesn’t that bother you?

Colt: The other Doms understand that this isn’t about swapping. It’s about the sexual experience you give another person who enjoys being manipulated. Some do it for sexual pleasure; some do it because they need pain in order to enjoy the sexual experience. Watching another Dom train Alexis so she can experience what he has to offer her puts me over the top. She enjoys it or it wouldn’t have been included in her contract. Right, hon? Then there’s Master Buck whom she’s learned to obey!

Alexis: I do have limits included, too. Don’t use needles on me or a cane to make me bleed or mark up my body. Otherwise, pretty much everything else is fun to experience so I go with it. Some of the other Doms are very good at what they do. They push your limits to experience even more and Master Buck is great at what he does. He’s totally professional in his training but you WILL learn!

Tonya: Do you truly enjoy performing for Colt?

Alexis: Just knowing that the cameras are motion activated throughout the house gets my juices flowing. To know that he could be watching me at any given moment is fun. So I will stop in front of one and give him a little show that he can watch as many times as he likes.

Tonya: Are you afraid someone else might see the videos?

Alexis: I trust Colt when he says that no one else has access to the videos he stores in his files. I’m fine with that.

Tonya: Colt, have you taken Alexis to any bondage parties yet with other couples?

Colt: Funny you should bring that up…I did receive an invitation to a party in Palm Springs. Alexis doesn’t know them so it’ll be fun to introduce her and let them get to know her body.

Tonya: * wicked laugh * Have you attended any of those parties in Palm Springs? I hear they have a huge mansion in the hills where those parties are held.

Colt: It’s been awhile since I’ve been there so it’ll be nice to rejoin old friends!

Tonya: Thank you both for being here with us this weekend. Readers, I hope you enjoyed meeting Colt and Alexis. Stay tuned to my website for information on upcoming stories. You never know where these two will show up! Now, don’t forget the contests below! Who wants a gift card?

CONTEST: If you’d like to get in on the contests during my tour – July thru September – follow me to each stop and get your entry in. My schedule is listed on my blog’s left sidebar. And I don’t know if you’ve been having trouble accessing my blog and website, but there seems to be something amiss in the coding somewhere. My webmistress (whom I absolutely adore) thinks the problem is somewhere in the blog files on GoDaddy. Unfortunately she doesn’t work with WordPress and the wonderful person who did the original coding is no longer in the business. I’m working hard to find a new blogmistress. In the meantime, be patient if you can’t seem to find me. I’m still here and hopefully will have the problem corrected soon!

I hope you’ll check it out. Have a wonderful weekend everyone!

Authors love to write. It’s what we do. There’s an internal drive to turn the voices in our head into a book. Regardless of that fact, it is very scary to send our babies out into the world and risk rejection.

Of course we think our manuscripts are awesome. Beautifully crafted and entertaining. Our families and critique partners have gushed and given a thumbs up. But there is still the chance the editor at our dream publisher won’t feel the same. And when they do, there is still the readers and reviewers who may not fall in love with our characters the way we did.

There are some authors who don’t read their reviews. Don’t worry what the critics say. I’m not one of them.

I read every review, celebrating each 4 and 5 star review and kicking sand when someone only gives my book 3 stars or *gasp* lower. I totally understand that my stories aren’t necessarily everyone’s cup of tea, but it still stings. But the interesting thing about these lower reviews, after the initial disappointment, I usually learn something from them. Those well written ones from readers are especially beneficial.

But so few readers even write reviews. Even author-readers. I always try to write reviews for my friends’ books I enjoy. They don’t have to be long or written in flowery prose. They don’t even have to be a synopsis of the book. Just a few honest words about how you enjoyed the book. Anne Allen has a wonderful blog post talking about reviews, the ease of writing them and the impact they have on book sales. You should take time to read it.

Seriously. take a moment … I’ll wait.

Good right? I especially like how she compares review stars to rating a pair of jeans. She makes it so easy to understand.

So what about you? Do you write reviews on Goodreads, Amazon, or Barnes & Noble? If you don’t why not? I’m always curious about these sorts of things.

And today you can check out a review (and give away) of “Deceive Her With Desire” at TBR Pile. I also have an short interview at Lisa’s World of Books. And I’ve got an excerpt from “Blind Her With Bliss” at 99 Cent Books. Whew. Busy day.

I’m often asked to explain what BDSM is and why people engage in this seemingly intense behavior. First I think it’s important to understand what BDSM actually stands for. It’s an acronym for Bondage, Disciple, Sadomasochism. However within the lifestyle it’s also accepted as a part of identifying the Power Exchange and Dominance and submission relationships. Individuals who embrace a Master/slave relationship do not consider themselves part of the BDSM mentality however do consider themselves part of the community. The fact is that there are various levels of BDSM, from the pleasure seeker who wants a little kink with his sex before he runs home to his wife/girlfriend, to the adrenaline junkie (major pain slut) who wants to push himself as far as he can go (think in vanilla terms those extreme sports guys/gals), to those that actually embrace Dominance and submission as a way of life; and even further, to those individuals who embrace a Master/slave relationships and live it 24/7.

Contrary to popular belief, BDSM is not merely about Whips and chains. In many instances, toys are never used as the individuals, both Dominant and submissive, are interested in “service” and a spiritual and/or emotional connection. Also keep in mind that some Dominants do not use impact toys (Whips, Floggers, Paddles) to enforce their dominance but use a psychological impact–even Fear Play—never once laying a hand on the submissive. There are also those Dominants/Masters/Mistresses who use humiliation and extreme control, again never once lifting a finger. Plus many BDSM relationships don’t involve sexual contact. I can go on and on in this topic however I’m sure you are getting the idea of how intricate and diverse the world of BDSM is.

There are safeguards within the community and between individuals interacting. This is where negotiations come into play as the participants decided what will be used turning their interactions (ie: Paddles, Whips, humiliation, sexual contact/penetration, etc). These interactions acceptable for someone you’re just meeting or are learning to interact with, however , there are NO negotiations when someone is a slave or property and already belongs to their Master/Mistress. At that point, the Owner decides what’s acceptable and what the slave/submissive will tolerate.

If you consider exploring this uniquely erotic and intensely stimulating world for yourself (whether as a writer or merely a participant) I would recommend joining a local BDSM organization in your area to learn some of the basics and learn how to Play safe. After all, no one jumps into a shark tank without at least knowing how to swim. *smiles*

I believe that as an adult, it’s your right to explore all avenues of your sensuality, of educating yourself to become the best lover you can be—the best writer. You go to school and workshops to become the best at your chosen career, why not educate yourself in a field that will be with you forever?

As for writers, it’s paramount to keep in mind that some individuals may be experiencing their first taste of BDSM and Dominance/submission through your books. If the reader identifies within this unique mindset and has no other clue as to what it’s about, your book becomes the judge of whether they’re “normal or not”. And Kinksters who read your book(s) appreciate seeing themselves portrayed in a respectful light and the villains and pathological behavior distinguished from those who practice D/s with love, respect and honor.

My books: BDSM THE NAKED TRUTH and BDSM FOR WRITERS opens the door, pulls back the Leather Curtain, and shows you the truth about what Dominance and submission really is. How individuals who embrace this lifestyle do so in a very respectful and affectionate manner. These books provide you with information on the various levels of intensity within the community. Everything from light spanking to someone/couples who go to the extreme; just as within vanilla relationships where some individuals/couples are quiet or mundane and others love the thrill of bungee jumping off bridges. (Vanilla—anyone who isn’t into BDSM.)

The books debut August 2011 in eBook and paperback form and are currently available for Pre-Order. Reserve your copy today and join our LIGHTENING BRIGADE—this is what I affectionately call the first 300 people to purchase a copy of my book. With your Pre-Order you’ll receive a $500 Digital Erotic Art Collection from Captured Erotica absolutely FREE. Plus you’ll be entered to win several fun kinky prizes and one mundane one.

Before I say goodbye, I want to take a moment to thank Nina for allowing me to share this time with you. I’m sure I don’t need to tell you how wonderful her stories are. I’d love to chat a little more about BDSM with you today and I welcome your questions and comments. If you’re an author (published/unpublished) sign up for my workshops being offered through Savvy Authors in August to learn how to enhance your novels and discover many secrets used within the lifestyle. For non-writers, I recommend my book BDSM THE NAKED TRUTH which is a wonderful resource to understanding what is at the heart of you or your partner’s desires; and/or as I mentioned earlier, allow you to enhance your sensual knowledge even if you decide Dominance and submission is not for you. And before I forget, enter to win a copy of my book (winner’s choice); all you have to do is ask a question or leaves a comment.

Welcome Taige! Could you please tell us a little bit about you and how you got into writing
Writing has been in my blood and soul forever. For as long as I can remember I’ve always been an avid reader and a writer. When I was a child I used to make up my own stories and share them with my family and friends. As I got older I continued to write. When I went to college I started getting more information on actually writing professionally. I joined some writing organization and started to learn my craft.

Could you tell us about your books?
My books invoke all the emotions in the reader. From happiness to tears. I love to take a reader to the high of happiness then the release of tears then back to that wonderful place of satisfaction of romance.

How do you come up with your characters?
I love to create the familiar and then put my spin on it. So my characters are varied and have such interesting lives and things they do. Lots of my characters are paranormal and can do such fantastic things. Those that are human also have things that make them what they are.

Speaking of interesting characters, if you had super powers what would they be and what would you call yourself?
The ability to create stories that made people’s soul resonate. And I would be called Rhythm Maker.

I like that, Rhythm Maker. So what happened to the first novel you ever wrote?
It got published. (grin) After a million-and-one self revisions and doubling in word count. Ripping it apart then putting it back together again. LOL!

I’m not sure I’d have the patience to look over my first manuscript like that. Speaking of eyes, I need a new pair of glasses, what do you think of these? Umm… you look nice. *whispering* What is she thinking? *loudly* You know what, Nina, those don’t look good on you. Here take theses (putting them on) those look so much better. Strike a pose. Oh, yeah you look just like Lady Gaga.

Yeah, but trust me when I say you don’t want to hear me sing. So another off the cuff question … if you were sick in bed which movie would be yoru comfort movie and why?
Aw I want more than one. Lady Hawke, A-Team and Transformer 1 & 2. And all the Disney cartoon Movies. Since I am sick, I have time to see them all. I love all of them. Yeah I am greedy. LOL.

Who/What do you attribute your success to?
Hard work and perseverance. I work hard for what I want. Even forgo things to get things done. And I keep at it until I succeed.

Anything else you’d like to share with your readers?
I love to draw. I’m an avid seamstress. I can whip up an outfit quick if I have to go someplace special and have nothing to wear. I love to cook. I’m a voracious reader. My library in my house and on my computer is massive. That’s one of the first things you notice when you come to my house.

Welcome Anh Leod! Her naughty Christmas a Go-Go is a brand new “Merry Kinkmas” story available from Ellora’s Cave.

Hey, Anh why don’t you tell us a little bit about you and how you got into writing
I don’t remember BEFORE, but I wrote my first story at age seven and never looked back. It was probably a school assignment. I continued to focus on writing and got my degree in Creative Writing, but became a computer programmer and let the muse die for a few years. I wrote my first romance in 1995 and made my first fiction sale in 2004, a mystery story I had written in 1999. These things take time!

7 years old? You started early. Why don’t you tell us about your books
I write under two names, Anh Leod for erotic romance and Heather Hiestand for everything else. Anh Leod gets most of the action (pun intended), and had three releases in 2010, but I do have an HH release next year. Nearly all of my Anh material is at Ellora’s Cave, with one story at The Wild Rose Press. I’ve been published by several small presses and mostly have written paranormal erotic romance, but I’m all over the board. No consistency here!

LOL! Yeah, it’s hard to stick to one genre. But could you tell us what inspired your latest release?
I had just come back from London. It was 1985 and I had bought the most gorgeous pair of white boots. I wore them shopping to Nordstroms and a shoe salesman knelt before me reverently to fondle them. I was a teenager and it was quite a shock, but the experience has been brewing ever since. Now it is Christmas a Go-Go, my December 21st Ellora’s Cave release!

That’s a great story. So tell us a little more about yourself. If we asked your friends to name 3 personality traits about you, what do you think they would say?
I asked a friend this just now, and she responded “Tenacious, pessimistic, surprising”-so there you go. Although I would say realistic.

I like the surprising part. So surprise us and tell us about your writing space,
These days I write on a laptop in a battered blue easy chair in my living room, since my office has become a storage unit for all the stuff I don’t want my toddler touching. I can barely move in it and the computer in there is dead. Sob! No more trips to Starbucks either, but the tot makes up for my lifestyle losses in entertainment value. He will become the model for an evil genius in one of my books at some point.

Wow! You are busy. So in between all the toddler wrangling what’s your writing process like?
I am a plotter. I don’t listen to music – trying to keep the house quiet while the tot naps, which is when I’m writing. I’m usually drinking tea at that time of day.

What happened to the first novel you ever wrote?
A friend dared me to write a romance novel and we ended up writing one together in 1995. It was used to teach English in a school in Africa, but was never published. Probably a good thing, since we didn’t understand point of view very well.

Christmas is this weekend, do you think if I give Mr. Nina these ties he’ll be happy?
I think you had better give Mr. Nina a massage. No doubt he spends many an hour hunched over in his chair, reading your novels. Don’t forget the happy finish! He’ll need it after reading all that sensual detail.

I think your suggestion fits nicely with what I intended to do with the ties. >wink< Ah hem, so back to writing. Tell us about how you deal with the editing process.
Cry. Whine. Call or email writer friends. Eventually do a thorough reading of the revisions and usually realize editor is rather intelligent and edits are worth doing. Then do them as quickly as humanly possible and get them out of my life!

Editors are wonderful that way. So what do you attribute your success to?
Butt in chair, hands on keyboard. Nothing else really matters in the end. Without words on the page, you can’t have any success. I think having great critique partners helped my motivation, to give me someone to answer to, not to mention all the useful feedback.

Okay, rapid fire …
* Vampire or shifter?  Vampire!
* Coffee or Tea?   both!
* Santa or Elves?   Santa!

Here’s the BLURB for Christmas a Go-Go
Lexie has a serious love for go-go boots and an heiress-sized fortune to build her collection. She has everything but a man who shares her fetish. When her new custom-made Christmas go-go boots capture the eye of Adrian, she wonders if she has finally found the one.

Adrian has always been turned on by a woman wearing sexy boots, and he’s immediately smitten with the lovely Lexie. Sparks fly and he leads her away to the VIP dressing room for a sultry tryst.

They both want more, and Lexie plans to have it. She wants Adrian at home, in front of her boot wall—naked, touching her body, touching her boots—while they have the best sex of their lives.

Thanks so much for stopping over Anh. We’ll be hanging here trimming the Christmas tree with the cabana boys. Don’t forget to leave a comment be entered in the contest.

I would like to welcome NANCY LENNEA today.

Hi Nancy, why don’t you tell us a little bit about you and how you got into writing.
I grew up with problem eyes so reading and writing were a chore. I remember taking a remedial reading class as a senior in high school. It helped. I wrote poetry. I concentrated on art and graduated with a teaching degree. It wasn’t until I worked as a 9-1-1 emergency medical dispatcher that I found the urge to write a book like the hundreds I loved to read. That urge occurred four years ago. I have sold two novellas and three full-length books since.

Wow, what an inspiring story. Could you tell us about your most recent book?
DESTINY’S MOUNTAIN is a romantic suspense set in the mountains of northern New Hampshire—about midway between Boston and Canada. I have filled it with stalkers, a murder, secrets, assumptions, mountain rescues, ghostly voices and a romantic happy ending.

Oh, all the elements I enjoy. But I’m especially interested in the romance element. How did you come up with your characters?
I am a plotter. I get the spark of an idea, a setting, a conflict, and how it all works out before I even see my characters in my head. Destiny is single, industrious, lives alone, and loves to hike on her mountain. Unlike me who has lived at home, with college roommates, then with my boyfriend-turned-husband. I guess I am industrious since I have always worked, even when the boys came along. I do love the out of doors, though hiking is not on the top of my list any longer. A brisk walk along the ocean—or in the grocery store—is thrilling, these days.

Sounds like you’re a busy woman! If you were granted super powers what would they be and what would you call yourself?
I would have the ability to fly, and to fly fast. I would not share my secret name. I have two identities as it is and that is enough to juggle, what with two websites, two blogs, and two publishers.

LOL! We won’t force it out of you then. Why don’t you tell us about your writing process?
I work whenever my husband is at work. Sounds silly, but the guy demands attention. When we moved to North Carolina, we agreed I would write full-time and he would pay the bills. It works, so far. I have used various methods to get my books started. As I said earlier, I am a plotter. For my current work in progress, I have sticky notes stuck to a piece of poster board. I find using Alex Sokoloff’s Three Act Play method works for me. At a glance, I can see the action—from love scenes to black moments. I can see where there are holes and where a character needs more mentioning. I drink iced tea and coffee (unsweetened) and try not to snack while eating. I take a break for lunch and in mid-afternoon to check e-mail, snail mail, Facebook, or read my latest paperback or e-book. My radio is stuck on my local country music station. Sometimes I’ll slip Taylor Swift’s Fearless CD into the computer. Her Love Story is my favorite song.

A plotter with scheduled writing time, you put me to shame Nancy! But inquiring minds want to know what happened to the first novel you ever wrote?
I sent it out to agents and a few editors. When rejections came, I placed it in the closet while I sent out my second book. Three and a half years later, I took it out of the closet. I discarded the first 77 pages, used what I learned at workshops and in on-line writing courses, and listened to my critique group. Then I rewrote my synopsis, polished my query letter, and sent it out. This first manuscript became my latest release, DESTINY’S MOUNTAIN!

You’re killing me here! I’m so impressed that you went back to that first book, many writers don’t. That brings me to the editing process. Do you have a routine you follow when going through it?
After I complete the manuscript, I read it several times (make that eight or nine times) while submitting chapters to my critique group. My mom is a great editor and catches errors such as when I use threw instead of through. When I think it is perfect, I print out the entire manuscript and read it aloud. Then I fix it (again). When sold, I go through three or four edits with my publisher. It is amazing what those editors will catch or change.

Thank goodness for editors. With all the books and stories you have out there, I’m curious who/what you attribute your success to?
I dedicated DESTINY’S MOUNTAIN to the men and women of New Hampshire 9-1-1. My co-workers encouraged me when I decided to write a book. They helped critique the story and offered plot points. I even named my heroine after one’s daughter! I am proud to belong to my local chapter of Romance Writers of America. The monthly meetings are instructional and the camaraderie is wonderful. They offer guidance and hope.

Support groups are invaluable. Is there anything else you’d like to share with your readers?
I would like to leave them with this short blurb and excerpt. DESTINY’S MOUNTAIN is filled with fear, tension, and danger but I make Destiny and Jacob’s romance the most important aspect. I love happy endings! I also write paranormal romance as Nancy Lee Badger and you can find out more about my alter-ego at www.nancyleebadger.com. You are welcome to friend me under that name on Facebook, too.

BLURB
In a quirky college town surrounded by the mountains of New Hampshire new art history professor, Jacob Oliver, hikes a trail on a crisp September morning. He contemplates his life. Divorced and forced out of his job with the Boston Police due to a horrific accident, he spots a naked woman beneath a majestic waterfall. Escaping, he falls and reinjures his knee.

Destiny Blake hears a noise. Someone is on her mountain. She finds a handsome man sitting in the mud. Love blooms and lust consumes them after she helps him to the safety of her cabin. Soon, assumptions pull them apart, leaving her vulnerable to the unwanted attentions of other men.

When Jacob decides he cannot live without her, he must save her from a madman who chases her up her mountain through the cold, snowy darkness of a November night. Ghostly voices push Jacob onward, and urge Destiny to fight back. Pain, hypothermia, and death threaten before the sun rises. Can Destiny and Jacob make it off Destiny’s mountain…alive?

EXCERPT
The strange man groaned, then turned away from her. Destiny assumed his injury caused him pain.

She crossed her arms over her chest, stood in front of him, and stared at his chiseled profile. Lines on his forehead and at the corner of his mouth proved he suffered.

Beautiful…what a strange term to use concerning a man, especially when some might say his chin is too square and his hair is too long.

She wanted to kiss his pale lips to return some color to them. A sudden yearning to rub his arms and warm him back to life made her heart thump. An image of him lying in her bed with his brown locks feathered across her plump pillow snapped her back to the present. Waving off such lusty thoughts, she leaned over and ran fingers across his scalp, checking for other injuries.

His hair glided over her fingers like a curtain of moist silk. She swept bits of twig and grass from the strands, and then ran her hands down both arms as she searched for wounds. Under the shirt he’d ripped on the blueberry bush, his arm shook, but except for superficial scratches, she found nothing. She stood and found her voice once more.

“You must be chilled from sitting in the mud, so we best get moving. Your hiking boots will support your ankles as we head down the trail,” she said as her gaze again swept over his muddy jeans. She gasped at the bulge between his legs.

Josie had once told her that trauma victims sometimes suffered an unwarranted erection. This man may be hurt worse than she realized. She had to get him down her mountain, fast.

Her gaze roamed back up to his face in order to get things rolling, but his eyes locked on hers. Silence surrounded them both. He must have seen her slow perusal of his body.

“Jesus,” he groaned.

She bit her lip, internally seconding his words. She arched her eyebrows when he adjusted his position on the log. I wonder if he’s in pain from parts of his body other than his knee…or groin.

Oh Nancy, this book sounds so wonderful. Thanks so much for coming over to share. While Nancy and I settle back to enjoy some pampering from the cabana boys I’m sure she’d be happy to answer any questions you may have for her. On any regular day you can find information about Nancy’s books from her website and her blog.

Today I’d like to welcome debut author Lynda K. Scott to the Writer’s Block. Lynda’s first book, Heartstone has recently been released by Mundania Press.

Welcome Lynda, tell us a little bit about you and how you got into writing
I’ve been writing since the time I could first hold a pencil in my chubby little hand, but my 4th grade teacher, Mrs Moore, gave me the real impetus to create stories to entertain others. She gave my class a writing assignment – to tell a story about entering a magic tunnel, what you find there, what you do, how you get back. I’m not sure what her goal was, other than to see how much we’d learned from our English lessons. Or it may have been a way to encourage us to stretch our imaginations.

I’ve taught creative writing at my local community college and used an assignment similar to Mrs Moore’s to show the students that although you can write about the same subject, your stories will be very different. So thank you, Mrs Moore!

What a wonderful teacher, but you’ve come a long way since those crayons and magic tunnels. Could you please tell us about your book?
Prior to writing Heartstone, I’d only written short science fiction. Oddly enough, all of the short fiction (except the few horror pieces) had romantic elements. So my writer buddies, all experienced and published romance writers, suggested I should try my hand at romance. I’m always up for a challenge and a few months later, Heartstone was born. Then these same friends suggested I enter it in contests for more feedback. I did. Heartstone finaled and won several of the contests it was in. I’ve been writing science fantasy romance ever since.

It’s amazing how good contests can help focus a writer. But before the focus comes the inspiration. Where do you get yours?
Inspiration can come from just about any source. I watched dust motes drifting through a beam of sunlight one day and came up with a scene for a story (not yet contracted). Heartstone itself arose from a series of what if questions. What if a woman didn’t know she was born on another planet? What if she didn’t know that the ‘psychological problems’ she thinks she has are really a manifestation of a rare talent prized by her people? What if she was married at mere months of age after a seer foretold who her destined mate would be?

On another story, a short SF with romantic elements, the entire plot and characters sprang to life after a dream I had about dust bunnies. A news story about a binary star inspired another SF story (also with romantic elements – you can see why my friends suggested I write romance, lol)

I don’t have any one source for inspiration. Everything on God’s green and blue planet inspires me in one fashion or another.

Dreams are wonderful sources of inspiration to be sure. I find movies great inspiration as well. If you were sick in bed what would be your comfort movie?
Okay, don’t laugh. My comfort movie is Zulu, with Stanley Baker and a very young Michael Caine. It’s a story of unmitigated bravery against an overwhelming force where a handful of British soldiers hold a small fort against the Zulu uprising over a period of three days at Rorke’s Drift. It doesn’t glorify violence or death and there are not four letter words or sex (the only woman wears long skirts and is covered up to the neck) but the characters and the characterization are beyond anything else I’ve ever seen. This is the kind of movie where certain lines or scenes are emblazoned on your memory for all time…at least they are if you’ve watched the movie as much as I have, lol.

Sometimes those sweet and innocent movies are the best. Speaking of sweet and innocent where do you do all your romance writing?
Right now, my writing space is a disaster. I’m in the middle of re-doing my home office to make it a tad more efficient and comfortable. So let me talk about how I hope it will be when I’m done. I have a large V-shaped desk with my desk top and my laptop sitting in the V middle section. I share my office with my kitten, Wookie (you can see her picture on my website) and her bed sits on a small chest in front of the window facing the street. That’s so she can catch any stray sunbeam…you knw how cats are about sunbeams, lol. I also have an easy chair to read in beside a small table with a gorgeous tiffany style lamp I bought years ago, a small TV and Wookie’s unmentionable area (she’s strictly an indoor kitty). The walls are painted lilac and I talked my hubby into putting a series of shelves on two walls to hold my ‘keeper’ books. Those shelves will be next on my list of things to reorganize…which means ‘how can I get more books into this limited space?’ I sometimes wonder if the anchors fastening the shelves to the walls will be able to hold all those books up? I won’t be putting my desk under them. No need to take dangerous risks, right?

Oh, no living dangerously for you? Well then if we asked your friends to name 3 personality traits that do describe you, what would they be?
Most would get a mischievous gleam in their eye that would worry me if I didn’t know their secrets too, lol. They’d keep the gleam but they’d say honest, smart and loyal. Those are the character traits I prize in my friends so I hope I have them too.

Oh, and speaking of traits, when you’re reading someone else’s books what male traits make the hero a turnoff for you?
First let me say, I love fictional alpha males but some can get too close to a point that’s almost abusive and that makes me a little uneasy. I’ll also say that even though they might get close to that line, they never actually cross it. If they did, the book would never make it to the library donation box, it’d go straight to the trash.

Trash a book? Yep, that happened with my first book. What happened to the first novel you wrote?
That would be Heartstone if you’re talking about finished novels. I have a whole bunch of other novels that were never completely finished for one reason or another. Mostly because they even bored me after awhile, lol.

Wow! I’m impressed your first finished romance manuscript was published. I’d like to find something romantic for Mr. Nina’s birthday, any suggestions?
Well, knowing Mr Nina as well as you do, you’d get something that would make his eyes sparkle. It could be a dinner at his favorite bistro or an evening at the game of his choice. Perhaps it would be a new dress for you that makes his eyes sparkle? Or an evening at home with his feet up, the newspaper at hand, and a cold one on the table beside him. The key is to know him and what he likes, what he thinks is romantic. Knowledge is power <g>

Oh, and I do know him so well! *wink wink* And since you know your characters so well if you could be one of your characters who would you choose and why?
I’d be Tara Rowen in my third novel (currently uncontracted and looking for a home). She’s a star ship captain, a jill-of-all-trades, who has a break even operation hauling merchandise from one star system to another. I’d love to travel the galaxy, to see new sights and people, to walk on different planets and smell the roses…or the nicturins as they may be called.

Oh, traveling the universe sounds wonderful, but not very relaxing. Which would you choose for a little down time … a hot soak in the tub or a smokin’ BBQ with your friends?
I can’t have both??? Or maybe start with a smokin’ BBQ with friends and everyone goes into the tub later?

A woman after my own heart, naughty to the core! Okay something on a more serious note. What advice would you give aspirting authors?
I’d give the same advice my creative writing professor in college gave – Write every day…even if you think it’s garbage put the words down. Keep going until you’re done. Then let it rest for a week. When you go back, you may find it’s a whole lot better than you thought. If not, figure out why. What doesn’t work? Fix it. Make it shine. Once you’ve done that, find a home for it and start writing something new. The more you write, the better you’ll get.

Wow, I think we’ve covered it all, but if we haven’t is there anything else you’d like to share with your readers?
At one time, Heartstone had a prologue. My current publisher decided not to use it but I wanted it available for readers who might be interested in how the story began. It can be found on my website.

Great News! If you buy Heartstone through the Mundania site, you can use the code LSCOTT10 at checkout and receive a 10% discount on your total (Heartstone plus any other book you might want) purchase.
